USC backup QB Sanchez released

April 28, 2006

Late last night Matt Sanchez was released from jail after posting bond.

Wait a second. Hold the phones. Stop everything. His bond was $200,000! Where the heck is he coming up with 200 G’s? I would imagine his folks are pretty well off, but that’s still a lot of coin.

I’m fairly certain that if I were arrested for sexual assault and held on $200,000 bail, my dad would go out and buy himself a new tractor and let me rot in prison.

Cheaters never win? We soon shall see

April 28, 2006

Things at USC keep getting more interesting. Reports today say that Reggie Bush’s parents never paid rent on the house they were leasing from a man connected to a sports agent. Apparently they had an agreement to defer their $4,500 per month rent until Reggie had signed a pro contract this spring. They now owe over $50,000. Do people now honestly still think that Bush had no idea what was going on? Give me a break.

Additionally, ESPN is now reporting that said sports agent company is trying to muscle Bush into paying $3.2 million for not signing with them.

One thing can is sure: Bush has himself mixed up with some unscrupulous characters here, and there were certainly violations. New Era Sports, the shady agency in question, was not incorporated as an LLC in California until November 23, 2005- just in time to cash in on Reggie’s new income.

Something has to happen with this. The Pac-10 and/or USC had better not try and sweep this under the carpet. There must be repurcussions. What those repurcussions amount to is another question.

Will the Trojans be forced to forfeit all their 2005 games? It seems unlikely to me, but stranger things have happened. If that turns out to be true, the Irish would be 10-2, which they should have been anyway after the now-infamous “Bush Push”.

Hopefully cheaters won’t win in this instance.

Dirty Sanchez

April 27, 2006

Things just keep snowballing over at USC. Backup QB and uber-recruit Mark Sanchez was arrested yesterday after an alleged sexual assualt earlier in the day. He has been suspended from the team and faces a $200,000 bond. The redshirt freshman had been practicing with the first team all spring due to the injury to starter John David Booty. On a side note, does anyone else see the irony that USC has two quarterbacks - Booty and Sanchez? I’m just saying.

To top this off, there was a thread going on a USC board last night talking about how Slippery Pete will get him off because USC has alumni in the D.A.’s office. How unethical is that crap? Those people are scum.

Between this, the Reggie Bush scandal, and everything else, I think it’s high time for the Trojans to step down as college football’s elite program. They’re quickly turning into a conglomerate of OSU and Miami, two of my other most hated programs. I think Charlie can take it from here, and do it without a bunch of thugs getting arrested every semester.

Zidane

April 26, 2006

If you speak a little Spanish and like futbol, here’s a good writeup from Notas de Futbol on Zidane retiring.

Zidane confirma su retirada tras el Mundial

April 25, 2006

For all you futbol (i.e., soccer) fans out there, lousy news out of Spain as Zinedine Zidane announches that he is retiring after this year’s World Cup. I don’t know that much about soccer, but I do know that he was a heck of a lot of fun to watch on TV while I was living in Spain.

If only…

Where in the World is Charlie Weis?

April 25, 2006

Here’s something cool that someone posted on Irish Eyes this morning. Using FlightAware you can track the arrival and departure of Notre Dame’s private jet wherever it goes. Now, keep in mind that Charlie isn’t the only guy using the plane, but you can still get a good idea of what’s going on. Yesterday you’ll note that he was in Cincy visiting DE Ben Martin of La Salle high school. Oh, baby.

Nevertheless, this is freaking cool.

How could something so stupid be so funny?

Freeware

April 14, 2006

I think a lot of people don’t realize how much good free software is out there that can do things better than high priced licensed stuff. Check out this freeware software site, and I’m sure you’ll be able to find something useful that you need on a daily basis.

Google comes out with something useful…

April 14, 2006

Yesterday Google released their much-anticipated Google Calendar. I’ve been playing around with it for the last half hour or so, and I have to say it’s pretty cool. You can import your Outlook calendar, which is nice. The entire interface is Ajax based, making it very easy and desktop-like in navigating around. One cool thing is that you can search public calendars for all kinds of things. For example, I’ve already added the 2006 Indians and Notre Dame schedules, as well as 2006 Dave Matthews tour dates.

You can share your calendar with other users. So say I want to know if Kelly has to work the weekend in three weeks. If she uses Google Calendar and shares it with me, I can just look and see for myself without having to ask her.

One downside: you cannot yet sync with Outlook. In order to make this thing really useful, they’re going have to develop some means for doing this. Additionally, it would be nice to have some sort of mobile interface so you could access it from your PDA. I’m sure the geniuses over at Google are already planning this…

Two countries divided by a common language

April 14, 2006

One thing that I find fairly interesting is the difference between British and American english. Take this story I just read this morning. It seems that Tiger Woods, the greatest golfer in the history of the planet, described himself as a “spaz” after his erratic putting in Sunday’s final round of the Master’s.

As it turns out, the term “spaz” is a bit derrogatory in the UK, as it is used to describe a person affected with spastic paralysis. I guess it could be equted with calling someone a “retard” here in the U.S.

While his comments went largely unnoticed here in the U.S., he made a formal apology if he offended anyone in his statements.

ABC to Offer Four Shows Online for Free

April 10, 2006

ABC has announced that it will soon offer four shows online for free. It didn’t go into details, but it looks to me like they’re probably going to be available only in streaming format and will definitely include advertising. The fact that they’ll likely only stream them instead of having a feed is supremely dissappointing.

The shows will be available the day after they air, but the fact that they’re streaming ONLY sucks. One of the big things I do via bittorrent is download shows so I can take them with me wherever I go. That way, I can watch the newest episode of The Amazing Race on the train going into work, and then catch the latest History Channel special on the way home. It’s a beautiful thing. For these things, you’d have to be connected to the internet to watch. Stupidity!

When will media companies learn to give consumers what they want? Until they do, I’ll stay over on mininova getting my content for free without ads!

Intensity

April 5, 2006

When you get a new camera, you end up sitting around doing crap like this because you’re not creative enough to come up with a better idea.
