Wedding Pictures

June 8, 2006

Hey everyone! I’m really looking forward to my wedding this weekend! If you’re coming, please note that we have set up a Flickr Group where anyone can add pictures. We’d like to get as many as possible, because chances are we’re not going to remember anything that day anyway.

Thanks for helping out!

For those who may have missed it on The Knott Hall Blog, this is a fantastic Boat Club sketch from the Keenan Revue. RIP.

Well, today is my last day at my job. The wedding is Saturday. Things are busy. More later!

13-year-old N.J. girl wins spelling bee, resigned to life of torment

June 2, 2006

Katherine Close won the national spelling bee yesterday after she spelled the word “ursprache” correctly. Katherine said she got excited when she heard the word asked of her because she “knew how to spell it as soon as [she] heard it”. Nice job, Katherine. You’ve got a lifetime of “dork” jokes coming your way. Hope it was worth it.

The runner-up in the competition was a 14-year-old Canadian named Finola Mei Hwa Hackett who faltered in the competition when she misspelled “welstschmerz”. Moron. Ironically, “welstchmerz” means a type of mental depression.

Word has it that Hackett dipped into welstchmerz following losing the competition, but then declined into superwelstchmerz when someone told her she’s Canadian. She then leaped out of her 8th story hotel window, plummeting to her ultimate demise.

“Your next word is ‘corpuscle’.”
“Um, could you use that in a sentence?”
“Hey Fred, look at that ‘corpuscle’.”

Where does he get those wonderful toys?

This is pretty darn cool. Some guy created the Batmobile from a 1978 Corvette and is now selling it for $50,000. Nerds everywhere, rejoice!

The Gov’ment wants its scratch, yo

News out of Washington today is that the government is seeking an additional $92 million in connection with 1989’s Exxon Valdez oil spill. While Exxon initially paid $900 million in a 1991 civil settlement, a provision in the deal allowed the government to seek up to $100 million additional for unforseen damages.

Does anyone else find it ironic that Exxon announced an over $8 billion profit a couple of weeks ago. Hmmm….

In the tax world, this is a concept known as “wherewithall to pay”.

In a shocking turn of events, Anna Nicole Smith has announced on her website that she is pregnant.

I’m suspicious. Did anyone check to see if she has pork rinds on her breath?
